Small icon (lithograph) of Saint Olympias the Deaconess on hard MDF with matte varnish.
Dimensions: 7 x 12 cm.
Saint Olympias (Olympiada) came from a rich and aristocratic family of Byzantium. When her husband died, Olympiada was appointed deaconess by Patriarch Nectarios of Constantinople and consecrated in a monastery, which she built herself. The grace of Saint Olympias was so great that Saint John Chrysostom addressed 17 of his letters to Olympias, when he was in exile. Olympias died at the age of 50, in exile in Nicomedia, shortly after the death of Saint John Chrysostom (407). Her memory is commemorated on July 25.
