Hand carved encolpion on boxwood, which is inserted in a walnut wood frame, made at the Holy Cell of the Presentation of Virgin Mary in Mount Athos. The military attire, the weapons and the cloak depicted with St. George, are carved with patience and great detail. The perimeter of the encolpion has a beautiful and discreet decoration. This hand carved encolpion is a real piece of art.

Saint George the Troopoephoros or Trophy holder is one of the most famous and beloved saints of Orthodoxy. He came from Cappadocia, martyred and beheaded in 303 AD. His name is related to many folk traditions and customs. Saint George is celebrated on April 23 or the following day after Easter.
