Hand carved encolpion on boxwood, which is inserted in a walnut wood frame, made at the Holy Cell of the Presentation of Virgin Mary in Mount Athos. Saint Nikolaos is depicted with a direct look under his rich attire, which has detailed folds. At the perimeter of the encolpion there is a elaborate decoration and four crosses. A real masterpiece, hand-carved with patience and love.

Saint Nicholas was born in the 3rd century AD in Patara, Lycia. He was Archbishop of Myron and took part in the first Ecumenical council. Many miracles occurred while he lived, but also after when he died in 330 AD. He is considered patron saint of the seamen. Saint Nicholas celebrates on December 6th.
