The name of the genus rosa comes from the Greek word “rodon” meaning “red”. The roses in ancient Greece were red and, according to mythology, they took their color from the blood of the goddess Aphrodite. Rosa damascena or damask rose, as is known in Europe, is widely cultivated due to its many useful properties.

Beneficial properties: Against constipation, tonsillitis and ulcers. It is used as an antiseptic, antibiotic and emmenagogue. It relieves from stress and helps in cases of insomnia. It also acts against headache and dizziness, while helping in cases of depression (antidepressants).

Use: Boil one liter of water, remove it from the stove and add two teaspoons of rose petals. Cover it for 10 minutes. Then strain and drink 2-4 cups of tea per day (depending on each case).
