Small, handmade wood carved engolpion with Saint John the Theologian. It is sculptured on boxwood at the Holy Scete of Saint Demetrios in Mount Athos.

Saint John the Evangelist or the Theologian was descended from a village in Galilee and was the son of Zebedee and Salome. He was an early student of Saint John the Baptist, while at the same time he was a fisherman. Later, he followed Jesus Christ without hesitation until His Ascension. He wrote the fourth consecutive Gospel of the New Testament and his name is associated with the phrase "Little children, love one another." Sain John the Evangelist celebrates on September 26th.
