In the Orthodox Church, in addition to the three old Hierarchs, Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, we also honor the new three Hierarchs. Fotios the Great was Patriarch of Constantinople during the 9th century, Gregory Palamas was Archbishop of Thessaloniki in the 14th century and Saint Mark the Eugene was Bishop of Ephesus in the 15th century. These saints were great anti-heretical theologians, each in his own time, as they fought against the Papism and all the distortions of the West.
