Saint Basil the Great is the first of the Three Hierarchs, one of the greatest Fathers of the Church. He served as Archbishop of Caesarea, with an enormous spiritual, social, and charitable work. Saint Basil the Great died at the age of 50 on January 1, 378 AD, and this is when Eastern Orthodox Church celebrates his memory.
