Saint Athanasius the Athonite came from Trebizond from a religious and piety family. He studied in Constantinople and then he moved to Mount Kyminas of Asia Minor to live ascetically. From there he next went to Mount Athos, where he founded the monastery of Great Lavra with the help of Emperor Nikephoros Phokas (963 AD). Saint Athanasius the Athonite celebrates on July 5th.
