Handmade Byzantine iconography of the Saint Agathon, made on Mount Athos, on natural wood. The icon is delivered in a wooden box.
Saint Abba Agathon was one of the wisest ascetics in the Egyptian desert. He was a disciple of Abba Pimen and was distinguished by his wisdom and deep humility. Saint Agathon dedicated his life to asceticism, silence, and prayer, which he considered the most challenging spiritual struggle. He used to say: «Forgive me, but I believe there is no greater labor than prayer to God. For every time a person desires to pray, his enemies, the demons, try to obstruct him». He stood out for his strict integrity, poverty, and charity. Saint Agathon helped the sick and the weak, even going so far as to sacrifice himself for the sake of his fellow humans.
The iconography depicts a miracle with the angel of the Lord. Abba Agathon while on his way to the city to sell some items, encountered a paralyzed man who asked him to carry him. The elder took him on his shoulders and carried him to the city, fulfilling every request of the man. At the end of the day, he returned him to the place where he had first met him. Then the paralyzed man, who was actually an angel of God in disguise, said to him: «Agathon, you are filled with divine grace, both in heaven and on earth», and at that moment, he disappeared. Saint Agathon peacefully passed away, and his feast day is celebrated on January 8th.
