Confession and Humility: the Teachings of Eldress Galaktia

The teachings of Gerontissa Galactia as recorded by the caretakers who lived near her

THE CONFESSION

«We must ensure that we depart from this life in an orderly manner in the Light of the Holy Trinity when we depart from this life. There, everything is revealed, as it is. The Light brings everything to the surface. In front of angels and humans. Thoughts, sins, everything. What we leave here with sincere confession, it will not be visible there. It will have been lost from us. It will have been erased. Confession rejuvenates the soul. It is better for us to humble ourselves to a human being, a confessor, rather than be ashamed in the whole commune of heaven eternally».

THE HUMILITY

«Without humility, no one can follow Jesus Christ’s will. Instead, one follows his own will and suffers in his temporary life with various trials that they aimed at reinstating him to order. And whoever experiences the grandeur of God through humility then pursues trials so as not to lose the majesty of God... ».

Eldress Galaktia of Crete: Men Should Respect Women

«You should respect your wives. If you don’t feel love, they will suffer and think that they are a means for your enjoyment, and they will feel terrible themselves... She doesn't want ribaldries and no dignities. That's why she gets hurt when they treat her like a ‘piece of meat’ and don’t care about her feelings.»

The Value of Wine in Orthodox Religion: Old & New Testament

As we know from the writings in the Old Testament, wine acquired distinctive symbolism. After the flood, Noah planted and managed to create his own vineyard. In Exodus, God gave a promise to bless three significant goods for human life: bread, water and wine. The lands and climate in the regions of Hebron and Palestine were conducive for the cultivation of vineyards. Viticulture flourished in a short time and gained great demand, as people cultivated their vines to produce the blessed wine. David hymns wine through his psalms, saying: "And wine that makes glad the heart of man..." (Psalm 104:15) and "You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased" (Psalm 4:7).
