The natural wood used for the synthesis of the icon is beech (fagus) from Mount Athos, a wood that is receptive to aging techniques that give the appearance of vintage to the wood, without altering the depicted image.
The depictions of faces, hands, halos or other representations are hand-painted on canvas by specialized iconographers, according to the traditional techniques of Byzantine Iconography. The silver frame of the icon is held by nails to resemble the original icons. On the back side, the icon has a small metal ring made of horseshoe nails so that it can be hung.

At the birth of Jesus Christ, a radiant star appeared in the heavens, heralding the coming of a King. Guided by this shining star, three wise men from the East journeyed to Jerusalem to meet the newborn Messiah. When the star vanished from their sight, the Magi were compelled to seek the counsel of King Herod. Troubled by the news, Herod inquired where the Child had been born, pretending a desire to worship Him. Once more, the star appeared before the Magi, leading them to Bethlehem. There they bowed down before the Divine Infant and offered Him precious gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Afterwards, being warned in a dream by an angel of the Lord not to return to Herod, they departed for their own country by another way. An angel of the Lord likewise appeared to Joseph in a dream, instructing him to take the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus and flee into Egypt, to escape Herod’s murderous intent. They remained there until the death of King Herod. Then, by divine guidance, they returned to the land of Judea, settling in the town of Nazareth. Thus were fulfilled the prophecies that foretold that Jesus Christ would be called a Nazarene or Nazorean or Jesus from Nazareth.
