The Holy Forty were soldiers at the most chosen group of Roman soldiers of of Licinius army. Because they opposed the expulsion against the Christians, they were thwarted, sentenced to spend the night in the icy lake and then their stiffened bodies of the confessors were burned, and the ashes cast into a river. The Eastern Orthodox Church celebrates the Holy Forty on 9 March.
