Saint Hosius of Cordoba

Saint Hosius was born around 256 AD and lived during the reign of Constantine the Great, distinguished for his virtue and his valiant struggle for Orthodoxy. Around 300 AD, he became the Bishop of Cordova (present-day Córdoba) and later participated in the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in 325 AD, as well as the Ecumenical Council of Sardica in 343 or 347 AD. During the time of Emperor Constantius, a proponent of Arianism, both Saint Athanasius the Great and Saint Hosius were mercilessly persecuted, suffering from tortures and exiles. However, Hosius maintained his Orthodox morale until the end. For this reason, Theodoret praises him and Saint Athanasius the Great honors him as the "father of Bishops". Our Church commemorates his memory on August 27.
