Saint Ignatius Bryanchaninov

Saint Ignatius Bryanchaninov, Bishop of Stavroupol, was born in the Vologda province of Russia in the year 1807 AD. The place where he grew up was full of monasteries and hermitages, which influenced his spiritual life. At the age of 20, a serious illness led him to the monastery of St. Alexander of Svir in St. Petersburg. Agios lived next to his elder Leonid in the monastery of Optina and in 1831 AD. he became a monk named Ignatius. Ignatius was Bishop of Stavroupol, Caucasus and the Black Sea and presented an important work. Some years later, due to illness, he resigned from the episcopal throne and retired to a monastery where he lived as a simple monk. Saint Ignatius slept peacefully in 1867 AD. and his memory is commemorated on April 30.
