Short life of Sain James the Less
Saint James the Apostle, the son of Alphaeus, was one of the Twelve Apostles and belonged to the close circle of Christ’s disciples. From an early age, he devoted himself completely to the faith and to the mission of spreading the Gospel throughout the world, leaving behind his former life. Tradition presents him as a particularly ascetic man, living with simplicity and strictness. He did not care for outward appearance, avoided worldly pleasures, and lived with great self-restraint, showing that his strength lay in prayer and his faith in God. This way of life earned him the respect and admiration of many. During his apostolic ministry, he traveled to various regions to preach, working to lead people away from idolatry and toward Christ. According to tradition, he also helped those in need through miracles, and there are accounts connecting him with prayers during times of drought, when nature responded to divine grace. Despite his mission, he faced opposition, persecution, and danger, yet he never abandoned his calling. Eventually, his work provoked hostility from his opponents, and he suffered a martyr’s death around 62 AD. The Church commemorates him on October 9.
