A Brief Life of Saint Panteleimon
Saint Panteleimon was born in Nicomedia in Asia Minor and lived during the era of the great persecutions of Christians. His original name was Pantoleon, and he came from a prominent and well-educated family, as his father was a pagan and his mother a Christian, an influence that shaped his life and spiritual journey. From a young age, he showed a strong inclination toward learning and excelled in the field of medicine, quickly becoming known for his exceptional skills. At the same time, he possessed great sensitivity toward human suffering and was never indifferent to the needs of others. His spiritual path changed when he met the priest Hermolaos, who introduced him to the Christian faith. He was baptized and received the name Panteleimon, dedicating his life to God and to the service of his fellow human beings, offering healing without payment. This attitude brought him into conflict with the authorities of his time and during the persecutions he suffered severe tortures. Nevertheless, he did not renounce his faith and remained steadfast until the end of his life. He is commemorated by the Orthodox Church on 27 July and is venerated as a protector of the sick.
