Silver icon with Jesus Christ 'Behold the Man'. Handmade silver icon on natural wood, made with 925ο silver with local 22K gold plating. The natural wood used for the synthesis of the icon is beech (fagus) from Mount Athos, a wood that is receptive to aging techniques that give the appearance of vintage to the wood, without altering the depicted image.
The depictions of faces, hands, halos or other representations are depicted in excellent quality and clarity silkscreen with "vivid" colors. The silver frame of the icon is held by nails to resemble the original icons. On the back side, the icon has a small metal ring made of horseshoe nails so that it can be hung.
The hymn ‘Behold the Bridegroom cometh’ is one of the most famous hymns in the Holy Week. The lyrics of the hymn refer to two parables, in which Jesus Christ is presented as ‘Bridegroom’ (in Greek; Νυμφίος). The first parable refers to the ten virgins who went out to precede the groom at a wedding. However, the groom was late and the women fell asleep. At that time, "their candles" blew out. Half of them had oil and renewed the flame, while the other half did not. The second parable refers to some servants who were waiting for their master to return from a wedding. In both cases, the groom symbolizes Jesus Christ, who we expect to appear in the Second Coming.
