Silver icon with Saint Basil the Great. Handmade silver icon on natural wood, made with 925ο silver with local 22K gold plating. The natural wood used for the synthesis of the icon is beech (fagus) from Mount Athos, a wood that is receptive to aging techniques that give the appearance of vintage to the wood, without altering the depicted image.
The depictions of faces, hands, halos or other representations are depicted in excellent quality and clarity silkscreen with "vivid" colors. The silver frame of the icon is held by nails to resemble the original icons. On the back side, the icon has a small metal ring made of horseshoe nails so that it can be hung.
A Brief Life of Saint Basil the Great
Saint Basil the Great is one of the most significant figures of the Orthodox Church and one of the Three Hierarchs. He is distinguished for his education, deep spirituality, and especially for his care and service toward others. He was born in Cappadocia in the 4th century, into a devout and well-educated Christian family. He studied in the major intellectual centers of his time, most notably in Athens, where he formed a close friendship with Gregory the Theologian, a bond that would last throughout their lives. Although he had the opportunity for a brilliant secular career, he chose instead the path of asceticism and service to the Church. He lived for a time as a monk and was later ordained as Bishop of Caesarea. As bishop, he developed an extensive charitable work, caring for the poor and the sick and establishing organized welfare institutions known as the “Βασιλειάδα”. At the same time, he strongly defended the Orthodox faith and produced important theological writings that greatly influenced Christian thought. The Church honors him as a Saint and as “the Great,” and his memory is celebrated on January 1.
