Short life of Saint Cyprian
Saint Cyprian was born in Carthage in the 3rd century AD into a wealthy pagan family. From an early age, he devoted himself to learning and acquired great education, especially in rhetoric and philosophy, while also becoming familiar with magical practices, which led to his reputation as a sorcerer. His life changed when he encountered Justina, a young woman from Antioch who had embraced Christianity and lived a life of faith. A young man asked Cyprian to use magic to win her over, but all his attempts failed, as Justina relied on prayer and devotion to Christ. This experience led Cyprian to realize that the powers he served had no real authority. Gradually, he abandoned magic and turned to Christianity, eventually being baptized. He later became a priest and dedicated his life to teaching and supporting the faithful in Carthage. Justina also devoted her life to God and became his spiritual companion. During a time of persecution, both were arrested for refusing to renounce their Christian faith. Despite the tortures they endured, they remained steadfast until the end and were ultimately martyred. The Church commemorates Saints Cyprian and Justina on October 2.
