Saint Cyriacus Small Byzantine Icon

Saint Cyriacus was born in Corinth around 408 AD into a devout Christian family, as his father was a priest. From an early age, he showed deep love for the Church, and his soul did not feel at home in the life of the city. At the age of only eighteen, he decided to leave for Jerusalem in search of a more authentic spiritual life close to the great ascetics of his time. There he met important figures of the desert tradition, such as Saint Euthymius the Great and Saint Gerasimus of Jordan, under whom he lived and received spiritual guidance. He served them with obedience and humility, always keeping alive within himself the desire to live for God. After some years, he returned to Saint Euthymius and was ordained a priest.

His life was marked by great self-restraint and strict ascetic practice. He lived simply, with little food, prayer and silence, avoiding anything unnecessary. Over time, he withdrew further into the desert, seeking deeper stillness and prayer. He reached a very advanced age while preserving spiritual clarity and physical endurance, as a result of his disciplined and simple way of life. He remained until the end a peaceful, gentle and beloved figure to those who approached him. He is known as a hermit because he spent his life moving between monasteries and desert places in pursuit of solitude. The Church commemorates Saint Cyriacus on September 29.
