A Brief Life of Saint Galini
Saint Galini lived in the 3rd century, during the reign of Emperor Decius, and came from the Peloponnese. Together with Saints Niki, Charissa, Kallida, Nounechia, Vasilissa, and Theodora, as well as Saint Leonidas, she remained faithful to Christ during a period of intense persecution. The group was arrested in the region of Troezen and taken to Corinth, where they were ordered to renounce their faith. They refused to do so. According to tradition, they were taken to the sea while praying and singing hymns. Stones were then tied to them before they were thrown into the water, bringing their martyrdom to an end. The memory of the martyrs remained alive in the region of Epidaurus. In 1916, seven skeletons were discovered there and, according to local tradition, were associated with the seven women martyrs. Nearby, a male skeleton was also found and identified by tradition with Saint Leonidas. The Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Galini on April 16.
