Brief life of Saint Hilarion

Saint Hilarion is one of the most well-known ascetic figures of the Church and is honored for his strict and deeply faithful way of life. From a young age, he showed little interest in material things, although he was born into a wealthy and pagan family in the region of Thabatha. In order to receive an education, he was sent to Alexandria, where he came into contact with Christianity and soon changed the course of his life. After being baptized, he decided to abandon the world and devote himself entirely to God. For a time, he lived near Saint Anthony the Great, from whom he received important guidance in the ascetic life. After the death of his parents, he gave away all his possessions to the poor and withdrew into the desert, living in complete asceticism. His reputation spread widely, as many people believed he could help in difficult situations. According to tradition, he performed healings, saved people from dangers, and even changed the hearts of robbers who came into contact with him. In his later years, he left the desert and traveled to various places, eventually reaching Cyprus, where he lived for some time in the region of Paphos. His presence there was associated with spiritual support for many people. After his repose, his disciples cared for his body, and part of his relics were transferred to Palestine. The Church commemorates him on October 21.
