Short life of Saint Jacob Tsalikis
Saint Jacob Tsalikis was born in 1920 in Livisi of Asia Minor. At the age of only two, he experienced the forced displacement of his family, who fled as refugees to Greece and later settled in northern Euboea. Amid hardship and poverty, a decisive role in his upbringing was played by his devout grandmother, Despina, from whom he learned to love God and his fellow human beings. From an early age, he showed a strong inclination toward prayer and church life. According to testimonies, while lighting the oil lamps in the chapel of Saint Paraskevi, he was granted the blessing of seeing the saint repeatedly, an experience that deeply marked his spiritual path. He was later miraculously healed from a serious illness after an appearance of Saint Charalambos. In 1951, he fully dedicated himself to God and went to the Monastery of Saint David in Euboea. He was ordained a priest and later became abbot of the monastery, offering spiritual support to thousands of people. One of the most well-known experiences he himself described was the appearance of Saint David and Saint John the Russian during a serious surgical operation, during which he felt their miraculous assistance and was saved from great danger. Saint Jacob reposed on November 21, 1991, leaving behind the reputation of a humble spiritual father who continues to inspire and strengthen the faithful to this day. His memory is celebrated each year on November 22.
