Short life of Saint James the Just
Saint James the Brother of the Lord is one of the most important figures of the early Church. After the Resurrection of Christ, he devoted himself entirely to the spread of the Christian message and took on the leadership of the Church of Jerusalem. His life was marked by strict asceticism, prayer, and great love for God and humanity. His devotion became so widely known that many called him “the Just.” He earned the respect even of those who did not share his faith, as he stood out for his integrity and piety. James played a key role in the organization of the first Christian community and is considered one of its principal leaders. He is also traditionally associated with the Epistle of James in the New Testament, in which he teaches that true faith must be accompanied by works and practical love for one’s neighbor. When he was asked to publicly deny Christ, he not only refused but boldly confessed his faith. Because of this, he suffered severe persecution and was ultimately martyred. The Church commemorates him on October 23.
