Saint John Climacus, also known as John of the Ladder, was born in 523 AD in Syria. Saint John Climacus was a renowned ascetic and abbot of the Monastery of Sinai. He  earned the title Sinai by his living in the Monastery. From a young age, he devoted himself to prayer, theological study and ascetic practice, gaining a reputation for his virtue and wisdom. He peacefully departed this life in 606 AD, leaving behind a significant body of authorial work. His most important work is the "Κλίμαξ" or "Ladder of Divine Ascent" which contains thirty chapters on virtue. This work remains a spiritual guide for monks and believers to this day. The Church commemorates his memory on March 30th and the Fourth Sunday of Great Lent.
