Monastic icon with Saint John the Baptist and Forerunner made in the Holy Monastery of the Athonite Fathers with the method of pyrography. The icon is hand painted on marine grade plywood.

One of the "great" saints of our Church, Saint John the Baptist, lived an ascetic life in the desert of Judah until the age of 30. Through the phrase "Repent, the Kingdom of the Heaven is at hand" prepared the ground of the advent of Jesus. This is why Christians commonly refer to John as the precursor or forerunner of Jesus. Saint John the Baptist celebrates on 7 January.
