A Brief Life of Saint Lydia
Saint Lydia was one of the first women in Europe to embrace the message of Christ, and her life remains a beautiful example of faith and devotion to God. She was originally from Thyatira in Asia Minor and lived in Philippi in Macedonia, where she worked as a dealer in purple cloth. Her heart, however, was searching for something deeper. When she heard the preaching of the Apostle Paul, she gladly received the word of God. Her faith in Christ was immediate. She was baptized in the River Zygaktis together with her household and became the first European Christian. From that moment on, her life was transformed, and she devoted herself with love to serving God and others. Saint Lydia opened both her home and her heart to the Apostles, offering them hospitality and supporting their missionary work. Through her humility and faith, she became a shining example of Christian life. The Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Lydia on May 20.
