A Brief Life of Prophet David
Prophet David is considered one of the most important figures of the Old Testament, as he was a king, prophet and psalmist. The Psalms he composed remain an essential part of the Church’s liturgical life to this day, expressing his deep love and trust in God. He was born in Bethlehem and was the youngest son of Jesse. Before becoming king, he lived a simple life as a shepherd. God chose him to be king, and the prophet Samuel anointed him, after which he served in the court of King Saul. Although Saul initially favored him, he later became jealous and pursued him as an enemy. When David eventually became king, he united the tribes of Israel, strengthened the kingdom and placed special emphasis on worshiping God by bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Although he wished to build the Temple, God appointed his son Solomon to accomplish this task. His life was not without trials and moral failures. After his sin with Bathsheba, David repented deeply and sought forgiveness from God. The Church commemorates him on the Sunday after the Nativity of Christ. If no Sunday follows before the end of December, his feast is moved to 26 December, when he is honored together with Joseph the Betrothed and James, Brother of Jesus.
