Saint Eleutherius lived in the early years of Christianity and dedicated his entire life to the proclamation of the Gospel. His mother, Anthia, was a woman of great faith and raised him according to Christian principles after he lost his father at an early age. From childhood, he stood out for his love of God, the seriousness of his character, and his willingness to serve others. When he came to Rome with his mother, he came into contact with important ecclesiastical figures of the time. His spiritual maturity impressed those who knew him, and he was entrusted with significant responsibilities in the Church from a young age. As the years passed, he was ordained a bishop and devoted himself to guiding the faithful. Through his words, example, and holy life, he led many people to the Christian faith. His reputation spread to distant regions, and many sought his counsel and spiritual guidance. His wisdom, as well as the miraculous events attributed to his prayers, further strengthened his ministry. During the persecutions against Christians, Saint Eleutherius was arrested because of his unwavering faith. Despite the tortures he endured, he never denied Christ. He ultimately gave his life as a martyr, and his mother Anthia also suffered martyrdom alongside him. The Church commemorates Saint Eleutherios as a hieromartyr on December 15.
