The Virgin Mary Eleftherotria is considered the symbol of protection and freedom for the Greek nation. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary Eleftherotria (who brings freedom), contributed to the protection of the Greeks and the establishment of peace during World War II. It is said that she protects people not only from visible but also from invisible dangers. Thus, our Church celebrates the Synaxis of the Virgin Mary Eleftherotria, on the same day as our National Celebration, on October 28th.
