Wood Carved Buckle with Saint John the Theologian

Hand-carved wooden buckle made from pear wood depicting Saint John the Theologian. The buckle is handmade at the Holy Skete of Saint Demetrios in Mount Athos. This piece may be inserted in a handmade metal base in order to be used on a monk leather belt.

Saint John the Evangelist or the Theologian was descended from a village in Galilee and was the son of Zebedee and Salome. He was an early student of Saint John the Baptist, while at the same time he was a fisherman. Later, he followed Jesus Christ without hesitation until His Ascension. He wrote the fourth consecutive Gospel of the New Testament and his name is associated with the phrase "Little children, love one another." Sain John the Evangelist celebrates on September 26th.
