Small Wood Carved Engolpion with the Holy Mandylion

A small, handmade, wood carved engolpion that depicts the Holy Mandylion. This art craft, with excellent details, is sculptured on boxwood and is made at the Holy Scete of Saint Demetrios in Mount Athos.

H: 3.5 cm.
W: 2.5 cm.

The Sacred Mandylio is one of the lost heirlooms of the Orthodox Church. It is a piece of cloth, on which the image of the face of Jesus Christ was miraculously depicted. According to traditions, the King of Edessa Abgarus was cured by using the Mandylio.
