What is the Symbolism of the Seal on the Offertory?
The circular form of the Offertory bread represents the womb of the Ever-Virgin Mary, through whom the Only-Begotten Son came into the world. An embossed emblem appears on the surface of the bread, created by pressing a special liturgical seal.
At the center of the seal lies the figure of the Lamb, accompanied by the inscription "IC XC NIKA," which translates to "Jesus Christ Triumphs" and must be plainly legible. From this central spot on the Offertory, where the inscription is found, comes the Lamb of God—Jesus Christ. This square-shaped section is set aside for the Divine Liturgy and is consecrated as the "Body of Christ" during Holy Communion.
