Wood Carved Buckle with Saint John the Baptist

Hand-carved wooden buckle made from pear wood, depicting Saint John the Baptist. The buckle is handmade at the Holy Skete of Saint Demetrios in Mount Athos. This piece may be inserted in a handmade metal base in order to be used on a monk leather belt.

One of the "great" saints of our Church, Saint John the Baptist, lived an ascetic life in the desert of Judah until the age of 30. Through the phrase "Repent, the Kingdom of the Heaven is at hand" prepared the ground of the advent of Jesus. This is why Christians commonly refer to John as the precursor or forerunner of Jesus. Saint John the Baptist celebrates on 7 January.
