Handmade wood-carved blessing cross made of pear wood by the fathers at the Holy Trinity Skete on Mount Athos. This cross is a unique work of art with exceptional details that belongs to the collectible series of monastic wood-carved handicrafts.
The cross is double-sided, with two representations and faces of saints. On one side, the Crucified Jesus Christ is depicted in the center on the Cross of Martyrdom, while on the left is engraved the Virgin Mary and on the right is the Saint John, the beloved disciple of Jesus. The representation of the Crucifixion is framed by two angels, while at the base of the cross there is the Virgin Mary, guardian of Mount Athos. On the other side, the Baptism of the Lord in the Jordan River by Saint John the Baptist is depicted, framed by the four Evangelists on the four antennas of the cross respectively. At the base there is a Six-winged Cherub.
This unique cross is adorned with elaborate filigree designs with gold-plated small flowers and semi-precious stones in blue that end in pearls and decorative stones in light blue and burgundy. A rare Athonite handicraft made with great patience and faith by the monks in the Garden of the Virgin Mary.
