Natural sea sponge, called “Mousa”, which is used by the Priests for the cleaning of the Chalice.
The sponges are processed with special techniques, so the priests can use them properly. Mousa is usually kept in the Chalice and symbolizes the sponge with which they watered Jesus Christ with vinegar at the Crucifixion. According to the ecclesiastical terminology, these sponges are called “Mousa”, because the priest is gathering the “pearls”, that is the small pieces of the body of Jesus Christ.
