Wood Carved Buckle with Saint George

Hand-carved wooden buckle made from pear wood, depicting Saint George killing the dragon. The buckle is handmade at the Holy Skete of Saint Demetrios in Mount Athos. This piece may be inserted in a handmade metal base in order to be used on a monk leather belt.

Saint George the Troopoephoros or Trophy holder is one of the most famous and beloved saints of Orthodoxy. He came from Cappadocia, martyred and beheaded in 303 AD. His name is related to many folk traditions and customs. Saint George is celebrated on April 23 or the following day after Easter.
