The Holy Chalice, also known as the Holy Grail or Holy Cup, according to ecclesiastical tradition, is the sacred vessel used by Jesus Christ during the Last Supper. The same tradition holds that it later came into the possession of Joseph of Arimathea, who collected in it the blood and sweat of Christ as he was being taken down from the Cross. For this reason, the Holy Chalice acquired profound symbolic significance and is regarded as one of the most important sacred symbols of Christianity. The Holy Chalice stands out among the other sacred vessels, as it holds the Holy Body and the Precious Blood of Christ. The faithful receive Holy Communion from the chalice during the Eucharist. At the same time, it symbolizes the cup used by Jesus Christ at the Last Supper. The wine contained in the Holy Chalice during the Divine Liturgy, mixed with water, symbolizes the Blood of Christ, in remembrance of the blood and water that flowed from Christ on the Cross, while the bread symbolizes His Body. The wine in the Holy Chalice during the Divine Liturgy symbolizes the Blood of Jesus Christ. During the Divine Liturgy, and after the consecration, the wine is transformed into the Precious Blood of Christ. The Blood mentioned at the Last Supper is directly connected to the Blood of Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross. This connection is made clear through the words spoken by the Lord Himself to His disciples at the Last Supper, when He invited them to drink from the cup, declaring that it is the Blood of the New Testament, which is poured out for the forgiveness of sins.

The smallest size starts at 26 cm. in height, the medium size at 32 cm., and the largest at 37 cm. All chalices, regardless of material or size, are distinguished by their high quality of craftsmanship and unique aesthetic value. Their decoration is carefully executed with great attention to detail, featuring engraved designs that convey a traditional and Byzantine character.

The Holy Chalices offered in our online shop vary in terms of the materials used in their construction, as well as in their appearance and design. More specifically, the following types of chalices are available:

  1. Brass Holy Chalice, featuring rich engraved decoration, a spherical shape, and a round base. The Holy Paten is supported by a shorter and thicker stem compared to that of the chalice.

  2. Nickel plated Holy Chalice, with the same engraved decoration and design as the brass chalice.

  3. Gold plated Holy Chalice, with a wide, multi-tiered base and visible gradation, offering stability.

  4. Gold plated Holy Chalice, with a spherical base and a tall, slender body, giving it an elegant and elongated appearance.

  5. Gold plated Holy Chalice, of a more restrained and classical design. It features a wide, circular base that provides stability. The stem is slender with an intermediate curve for a comfortable grip by the priest.

The Holy Chalice set includes a collection of sacred vessels used during the Divine Liturgy. The Lance is the tool used by the priest to cut the bread, and the Spoon is used for the distribution of Holy Communion to the faithful.

At the same time, they symbolize both the swaddling clothes in which Jesus Christ was wrapped at His birth and the burial shrouds in which He was wrapped after His Crucifixion.
